Omega Life Science's aerosolization technology enabled the development of a proprietary inhaler (AlphazerTM) for the inhalation of ultra-fine aerosol (dry or wet) with unprecedented small particle size and high particles density.
The hand-held inhaler (see Figure) is loaded with a coin-like disk (“tablet”) containing the drug in a liquid form. The liquid is aerosolized forming a cloud of drug droplets or dry particles. The mean size and size distribution of the drug can be tightly controlled for optimal pulmonary uptake, depending on the desired target area in the lungs for maximal local or systemic uptake.

Major characteristics of the inhaler:
The inhaler produces either droplets (ultra-fine, narrowly-distributed droplets at a preselected size within 0.2 to 3.0 µm) or dry particles (at a preselected size within 20 to 1,000 nm). The inhaler delivers super dense aerosol cloud with up to 1011 units/cm3, and thereby large doses of APIs can be delivered in a single puff.
The device is accurate and produces repeatable drug dosages.
The inhaler is user-friendly: The produced aerosol is captured in a small receptacle, ready for inhalation when the patient is ready. The inhalation entails a sipping-like motion that coordinates smoothly with the natural breathing pattern. The use of the inhaler is intuitive and requires no special breathing maneuvers, thereby ensuring good compliance.
Propellants are not required.
A single device can be used repeatedly for the same and/or for different drugs since the drug container is a disposable unit.
Formulation applications for the inhaler
Using our nano-particle production equipment (link to....) and formulation capabilities as mentioned above, various formulation approaches can be employed to tackle the range of soluble to non-soluble drugs.
